what horsepower should an '88 xr 600 have?

10 posts in this topic

i just bought a n xr 600 that was plated in California. it was fun until the crankshaft stripped at the sprocket on the first day and now i get to weld and grind on it. it is stock other than a supertrap pipe. it has plenty of power so i am just curious. What is the stock gearing for this bike. i have a 50 tooth in the rear and about 70mph it is pretty done.

HP all depends on what mods the engine has and what kind of shape its in, i would get your bike mechanically sound and just enjoy it, if its not enough HP then time to mod it up GL n welcome to TT

The manual for my '83 says it's got 43 bhp...I don't know how that translates into actual horsepower. ..

But even stock and with me weighing 260 lbs. it's a torque monster, haven't even felt the need to add to the hp figure...

Something doesn't look right...

Then again I have a 1988 factory Honda service manual on .pdf and it lists the "dry weight" as 26.5lbs and the "curb weight" as 287.5lbs. It must have a huge gas tank.
