Stuck Pivot Shaft

Recommended Posts

I have a '98 YZ400F. The swingarm isn't rotating very well. I can't get the pivot shaft off to lube it. The pivot shaft is the shaft that goes through the swingarm and frame. I've tried PB and torching the bolt. It's not budging. Any tricks to this?

Heat is your friend...PB penetrating lube is excellent stuff also. This is what i have used before with good results. At the worst you might need to use both of those and an air hammer <chisel> with a round attatchment to get the bolt moving. Better buy a new pivot bolt and swingarm bearings also.

Thanks for the advise! I finally got it. My brother made a brass rod that I could really hit without damaging the pivot. A lot of PB later it finally inched out. I think I do need a new shaft and bearings - the swing arm still doesn't move very well even after cleaning and lubing with wheel bearing grease.
