XR650R max speed? why cant i go over 91?

ive got 15-45 gearing with stock chain, uncorked, and i cant go over 91...not that i need to but i held it wide open for a good 6 seconds and it took all 6 seconds to get from 86-88 to 91.7 according to my Vapor computer? It still pulls hard from 70-80 but nothing above 90...ive heard guys say that there 650R's do 100-110

the bike suppost to do 100 with stock gearing right? whats up?:crazy:

My bike goes about 170 km/h with Sm-wheels. Don't really know wich gearing though.

Jetting/state of tune/air filter? Were you on flat ground? Were you on pavement? Were you wearing a big puffy shirt or coat that flaps in the wind? Were your radiator shrouds bending outwards acting like air brakes. Were you tucked down with your helmet on the cross bar?

My bike won't do past about 75-80 if I'm standing up with a big puffy coat going up a hill on dirt.

Tucked down on pavement with a tight fitting coat, I can break 100 with stock gearing according to my GPS.

flat ground, tucked down...i have a 172 main jet in and i orderd a 175 and 178 to try, proble need a high flow side panel for the 178 to work good.

try a 68s slow jet and a 172 or 175 main jet

Then make sure your vapor is calibrated..

Go on a ride with someone else with a good odo Or find a road that has mile markers.

Mine hit 98 and was still pulling a ton before a slowed it down

172 seems lean, I run a 168 and I'm up at 6100 feet. Try the 175 and see how it takes.

Mine GPS 'ed at 92-93 in the dirt and 96 on pavement. I'm running a 15T up front though.

You gotta remember though, I'm down 20% of rated power up here at 3% per 1K'.

gona raise main jet, im at 1,000 feet, ill start with a 175 and maby try a 178 after that

STock uncorked at 2400 is 175 main, b53E needle forthclip, 68s pilot,

Header/muffler, holes in the air box and we were running 185 main, b53E needle third clip, 70s pilot.

great adivse! i put in a 175 today and tested it out on dirt only...i had it doing 92.5 on a dirt road...and it still had a little, cant wait to get it out on the open pavement.B):applause::D:bonk::crazy:

it seams to be running about the same though, a little power increase but not much. Im gona do the XR's only high flow side panel at some point and maby put in a 178? 180? not sure what to do with the needle or pilot jet? its at 3rd needle pos and 68S pilot.

i got it to 98 going down hill on pavement, my vapor read 7600 RPM's...i thought i would be able to get it closer to red line but it just doesnt seam to wanta go over 7600 rpm, even when im going down a hill. Im quessing a full stystem exhuast would help the higher RPM stuff?

A full exhast on mine really helped w\ stock gearing i can do 92 on pavement and 85 on (loose)dirt road. I run a 165 main @ 3000-9000 ft.

91 is really really fast! I would think.

Ive broke 100 on my 86 dual carb XR600,but its jetted,piped ,ported, geared,you get the picture?

Ive hit 95 on flat dirt with a loose flappy jacket and pants tucked down. I have a pumper carb and race exhaust and such though.

EDIT: that was in 5th in hit 85 in 4th.

I can't seem to break 105 mph on flat asphalt, tucked down behind the handle bars. Granted the bike is screaming at that point and I don't want to hold it there too long... it took a while to get from 95 to 105.

ive got the vapor to...ive never revved over 7600...its like im redlineing at 7600? and on flat ground i dont think ive reved over like 7200...im hopeing some when i get my 17's on its will get better but who knows

your stock exhaust and cam don't generate much torque past that RPM. Get a procircuit t-4, side panel cutout and a stage 2 or HRC cam, you will definitely feel a difference in the top end. I wouldn't rouinely run the engine in the red. That is a big piston moving very fast. Expensive repairs are required if you blow up your motor.
