water pump seal - which way round?

2 posts in this topic

I replaced my waterpump seals and impellor shaft on my 98 wr but the leak reappeared within 200 miles. Should the seal on the impellor side be fitted so the writing on the seal faces the impellor or the other way around? The maunal does not really help. As I bought the bike used I am not sure if the first owner fitted the seal incorrectly.

Thanks in advance for the good advice I know members of the board can offer. :)

The lip side of the seal should be facing out.

ie (writing inwards).

Opposite to the oil seal on the other side of the cover.

You may need to polish the shaft if it still leaks. The seal on mine leaked after it got hot one time. And the shaft needed a polish.

Cheers Pete
