XR400R oil cooler on a XR650L

8 posts in this topic

Hey guys,

I've been reading old (searched) posts about puting an XR400R oil cooler on a XR650, but everything I've read talks about finding a oil cooler and then buying new fittings and piping.

Question:

Can the XR400R fittings and piping work on the XR650L?

The oil cooler I just picked up came with all the OEM stuff for it.

Hmm.

Thanks!

I'm almost certain that cooler is prefered for its design, but the plumbing needs to be done by you.

I ran a JAGG oil cooler on my 94' "L". Just connects in line using the oil lines going to the frame tank. It extended the oil life alot.

Ya, those posts are what got me interested. I was just wondering if the reason they used aftermarket piping, and not the XR400R's OEM piping; was because they didn't happen to have it? Basicly, wondering if the OEM stuff can/will work; or if I'll need to get aftermarket piping too. (The one I picked-up is coming w/ the OEM piping).

Could you post pics, or the model number, or describe this install?

JJ im gonna assume the oil lines arent in the exact spots as the L and thats prolly why you havent seen any of the threads talking about it. I will do this to my bike sometime this winter before next summer.
