01 Wr426... What to do next?

8 posts in this topic

I have an 01 wr426. Mods consist of: throttle stop removed; grey wire mod; k&n air filter with air box lid removed; quick shot; power now valve; full big gun exhaust. Like the rest of us, im always looking for more. I am going to rebuild the top end with a weisco piston this winter and port it. what else is there to do? Ive heard of people putting yz cams in, but i like the way the power band is now. Do the yz cams differ from hot cams? What would you guys recomend? Thanks guys!

Sounds like you have done your research. Keep an eye on the K&N air filter. Many in here have seen dust and sand getting past the K&N. :thumbsdn: I prefer twin air and moose racing makes a quality filter.

I put a YZ ex cam in my 02 and I like the way it smoothed out the power band. Here is a chart showing the difference and the instructions in case you decide to do the install.

Another cheap but effective mod is the BK mod. Click on this link, tech articles, BK mod. It allows you to shorten/adjust the spray time of the accelerator pump. A lot of other great advice on the site too.

If you're doing the piston anyway, GO BIG. A 444 kit from Lukes Racing and a set of Hot Cams will really wake that bad boy up!

If you have off idle problems, specifically a bog when cracking the throttle. I would suggest researching the O-ring mod rather than the BK mod. I too have an 01 WR 426, and I have recently removed the BK mod in favor of the O-ring.

Hmm, what is this O-ring mod you speak of?

:)
