What size bike for me?

hey im debating on what kinda bike to get. i looking at either a cr125, cr250, or a yz426. i know its bt two strokes and 4 stroke, but these are the bikes local that fit my price range. ill be doing all woods, and no mx tracks at all. im 6'0 and 160 lbs. also, whats the estimated miles i can get outta tank from one of these?

i would stay away from the 125... trail riding it would be a challenge at your size imo. i have a 250 2stroke and a yz400f and they are both fun trail bikes.

the stock yzf tank is like 1.8 gals and trail riding on mine i could go about 35 miles without running out. I have been told they will average 20mpg.

Trail riding? The YZ. I think you'll learn to love it more. 4 strokes are good for more varying terrain. I know there are some real hard core 2 strokers out there, but on the average, for the average guy, the 4 stroke is much more adaptable. Costs a bit more to maintain, a little heavier, but now you got torque!

Find a 05 - + yz250 instead of the CR250.....you will be much happier. The CR is underpowered and weak....:thumbsdn:

alright cool, ill look into a yz250. and the 426, it is true it will cost alot to rebuild.. but im worried about gas consumption.

Find a 05 - + yz250 instead of the CR250.....you will be much happier. The CR is underpowered and weak....:thumbsdn:

Not sure what he's talking about but I have a 2001 cr250r and a 2004 wrf450. Perhaps he is talking 4 stroke, cause I couldn't call my cr underpowered and nobody that has riden it has, which is quite a few people as it is my spare/riding buddy bike.

For trails I'd go the wr. If you are even slightly concerned about fuel, the cr 2 strokers are not what your looking for. I get max, 25 to 30 miles out of my cr, while I put 60+ miles on my wr, but it has a stock 2.4 gal tank (I think).

I've also put a butt load of fork seals in my cr and constantly have to wrench on it... If I could only have one, no question it'd be the wr, and I might buy another and get rid of the cr.

the 2000 cr would be nice too..but my bud fowls plugs a lot on the trails..but its not soo bad

Oh yes, I have that problem too... They just aren't made for the trails.

hmm damn..and 125s are no good neither right? bc around my area i have cr 125s and 250s. and crfs but they want an arm and a leg for them..

Don't get me wrong, I did trails on my cr250 for 4 years and it performed pretty damn good, but give a choice, knowing what I know now, I'd get the wr if at all possible.

In the end, get a bike, have fun, learn what you really want out of a bike and while your riding, save for the next one.

ya..don't be afraid to get a 2 stroke..just make sure its a 250..and ride it and just be aware of fouling plugs..but go for it! you will love it

I do more tight trail riding, than I ride the track.

I have had the CR250, and currently have the YZ426F.

My brother in law has the CR125.

From experience The CR250 did well in the woods, but would stall, and foul the plug by the end of the ride.

The CR125 lacks the power of the 250 & 426, and also stall's and fouls the plug every ride.

The YZ426F does very well compared to the others, but its hot nature will make it start spewing coolant within no time.

The coolant issue can be solved by buying or making an overflow tank.

The 2-stroke does not like to idle, and has to be kept at a high rpm to make power.

Tight trail riding does not allow for that.

So hands down I would choose the YZ426F.
