Rode an 06 WR450 this weekend.....

8 posts in this topic

My buddy let me ride his 2006 WR450 this weekend. I am really stoked on it. I own an 02 KTM 200EXC 2 stroke, which I absolutely love, but I have to say the WR impressed the hell out of me. What a great bike.

Last time I rode was 1986, I bougt a 1986 YZ125. nearly 20-years later I bought a new 05 wr450 and that bike made me feel like I was 15 years old again. Just been a blast. Now looking to get an 07 for a spare as my buddy has a YZ and in california he could only ride from October to March. Now we could ride all year round. Moral of the story, I'll never part with my WR unless Yam makes some crazy changes that I need another. :ride:

My bro-in-law told me he has an opportunity to pick up an 06 WR450 that has maybe been ridden 20 or 30 miles for $3500 from his hunting partner. I HOPE he picks it up as he needs an off road (he rides a CRF450R) and I want to ride a WR again.

Im kind of wishing I bought a KTM200 instead of my WR450. I think I would be faster on the smaller bike.

I definitely wouldn't sell the KTM for a WR, as most of the riding we do is in the woods. But I think the WR would probably work better in open desert conditions. I'd like to have both.

There is a big weight difference between these two, in my opinion they are not comparable as far as racing goes.

The KTM200 is light(compared to the WR450) with the weight laying low.

The WR450 is much heavier with the weight quite high up, as some say 'top heavy'

I'll stick with my 450 although during some races I wish for a lighter machine.
