Dude it has nothing to do with tree hugging hippies.

It's not a factory bike. It's like say BBR releasing a bike to Europe - it probably wouldnt see in any reasonbale numbers to justify the homologation. Parts and service would be another issue - can you say italian language barrier?

The Europeans generally have their own markets to satisfy and so dont care too much for US sales. Plus you have 50 states to satisfy - who the flock would want that nightmare of issues each and every state would put up? One state would want orange indicators while the other just to be different would want clear indicators.

That bike is EFI and would probably be cleaner than a Toyota prius.

Nice.

you may be right on the 50 state thing. maybe it was just a bad joke! oh well, this is probably the same reason that we dont get the cool diesel powered land cruisers and such that you see everyday over there! as far as being cleaner than a prius, i doubt. especially if you think the bike can only hold 1 person. the prius, 4 comfortably. so take 1 prius- 4 people, 4 of these bikes- 4 people. at the end of the day you have used and expelled more fuel/exhaust to run 4 bikes/4 people than you have with 1 prius-4 people. but i am overthinking it !

Any way to make the page English?

That's funny, KTM seems to sell a hella lotta bikes here :usa: (they are from....?) of course they are way over priced as reliable as the pull out method and never win anything......................

KTM does not count in the European discussion. That 490 is built by the Italian importer, it is NOT a factory built Honda. It is a 'niche' bike just like a TM, Gas-Gas, Beta, Husky, etc... I'm not saying that any of those bikes are bad (in fact some are down right awesome), but the manufactuers of those machines could care less about the American market.

FWIW, KTM has made their name by making bikes that the Japanese won't. They build more specialized bikes out of the crate, as the J bikes are more universal. That is part of the KTM appeal. And for those that think a linkless shock is a good thing...

Too true Eastreich, too true.

KTM also went through a major transfomration in the 90s - anyone remember their 1990/91 250 2 smokes? Quality issues everywhere.

The they rode the wave of 4 strokes with the 450/520 RFC bikes and have just kept going.
