650R.... one nice bike.

Honda 650 R, what other bike can you go on a dual sport ride on and go from

100+ mph black top twisty stretches to low speed technical river crossings to jumping

In and out of creaks and over logs and wallow in the mud all in one morning?

Man I tell you guys this, the 650R is a nice bike.

I just got back from a 184mile DS ride with a buddy of mine …. We had a blast!

He has a new WR450 (magic bike also) we left at 7am and were back for 11am

Had a couple of beers and washed the bike down…. isn’t life grand??

We had so much fun… we didn’t even take pics…. Hell we didn’t even stop

For a pee hehe!

I have put almost 6K miles of DS on this bike now and love it more each time

I ride it.

I understand...do you still have the ear to ear grin after all this time? :applause::ride:

Cool!

What kind of tires and gearing you use to go from triple digit to plonking?

 hehe... sorry.. I forgot to mention the face ache as well :ride:

15 X 45 Gives you good long legs and enough slow speed (just) it gets a bit

hairy in woods / twisty stuff, it's a bit tall for that, but it's DS not woods

riding. For woods I run 15 X 48, it works better, although 14 X 48 is best

for tight stuff, but too much effort to swap both front and back sprockets

for one ride :busted:

I was running 606's back and front, but now I run a Kings KT-966 on the back. Crappy

off road but at least I get more than 400miles out of a tire this way.

Mudshark,

Cool.

I'm with you on the gearing and D606; alternate between 14 & 15 - 45 (14/45 same as 15/48). You put the the 606 R rating to the test...106mph ;-) but I don't have the nerve to run D606 fronts and certainly not to that speed (TKC80).

Its amazing to have a bike that is fun just cruising around and commuting, that can run wide open through any canyon road and hold its ground to street bikes, then be able to hop on the craziest trail and keep up with any woods bike.

Did over a hundred miles on mine in a couple hours of dirt roads and highways. Messing with harleys also offers hours of amusment, I love coming up on one fast, signaling out to pass it, pretending to pass at a slow pace and looking over like I'm going as fast as I can, tricking them to punch it, then just opening up the throttle and laying waste. Always puts a smile on my face.

Honda made a huge mistake never selling a street legal 650r, the bike has to be the best all around bike ever made, the only thing I would add is a sixth gear.

Ditto, "6th gear". That's why I run 15/45 in DS trim and 16/44 with SM rims and tires. Both ratios get me nice easy 65 mph cruise and still excellent low speed response.

Ditto "the best all around bike ever made".

Its weird, but I kind of think I know why Honda never DS'd the R: It wouldn't have been the "R" anymore if they did, because the mass market requires an electric starter and that would have altered the bike quite a bit, in my opinion. It would have been a great bike, for sure, but not the "R" anymore.

Me, I love the fact that its kick-only. Yeah, I flooded my old Keihin twice and kicked it over until I thought I'd die. I still loved it even then, only angry at myself for flooding it. Then I wussed-out and got an Edelbrock.

Edelbrock or Keihin, its still a superb, mutli-talented riding machine.

Wow! That's averaging close to 60mph on and off road!:applause:
