I have a 98 YZ 400 and I put a 2000 WR head on it. The only thing I had to do was drill a hole for the hot start valve. A 426 head should be just fine as well. The valves will work too. Just that the 426 valves are Titanium. Hope that helps.

The 2000 426 had SS valves. "01 & '02 were Ti.

And a 2000 WRF was a 400.

If I recall correctly, a 426 head will work, but there is no place to connect the hot start, as it is built into the 426 carb. You should be able to drill and tap for the fitting.
