removing rear wheel

Maybe i'm semi retarded or just over tired, but i cannot get my rear axle out?? I took the axle nut off and was banging out it with a 3lb hammer, is there something i am missing to knock this through??

bike is new to me, i've never had it off, but i know it has sat for a few years. so i'm guessing its just seized.

Wanted to make sure there wasnt any sort of pinch bolt or something i was missing...

Now to try and remove the ever so delicate hex bolts holding the rear rotor on Think i'm gonna let them soak in some pb blaster for the night adn try again in the morning.

This would be the ideal time to see if the chain adjuster bolts have seized also - see if you can remove them w/o heat. They need to be greased/antiseize lubed also

yea those have always worked fine.

Just cant get these hex nuts off to remove the rotor They are getting pretty chewed up after a couple of tries.

Supposedly they come loctited in place. Use a torch to heat them up a little, it breaks the loctite loose.

Hex nuts shouldn't get chewed up if you've got a good socket.

WEll that was a night mare. Couldnt get any of the hex bolts out. I went and ordered 6 new ones and they were a regular style bolt. so i'm not sure why it had the allen key type in it. Had to take it to a machine shop to have them all drilled out and replaced with helicoils

Anyways, so i never have to go thru this again, should i be putting some sort of never-seize on these bolts? They already have loctite..?

Loc-Tite will actually make it easier to remove the bolts after a long time in place. The trick is to heat it up a bit, after which it melts and becomes a sort of thread lube.

You could have used an impact driver to get the rotor bolts off.

Your axle is siezed. Happens to everyone who doesn't apply grease to YZ component parts when apart. Lay the bike on it's side, threaded portion of axle facing up, spray PB Blaster all over the threaded axle and let it sit for a few days, repeate if necessary. Eventually your axle should free up, and be able to be hammered out.
