Oil screen on XRL?

I bought my 2002 xr650l used,it didn't come with a manual.Can anybody tell me where the screens are that get cleaned?I'm talking about the screens on the oil lines maybe?Thanks

On the bottom of the front down tube of the frame, just below the frame oil drain plug. There is an oil line that goes up to the bottom of the down tube. You will need to loosen the back bolts of the stock "skid plate", remove the front bolts of the skid plate, then swing the skid plate down. Remove the oil line and then unscrew the fitting that goes into the down tube. The screen is attached to that fitting.

And be real careful putting it back. If you twist the lines just a little, it can starve the engine for oil.

There is another screen at the pump, inside the clutch cover.

like dave said, be very carefull. use a quality 6 point socket or wrench. on mine i dont have to drop the skid pan either. it will come out with a little angling and without damaging it.

just make your own gasket out of cardboard...seriously.
