Is it time for a new clutch!

On my 06 I noticed Iam approaching the last four or five threads on the adjustment part where it goes into the clutch lever perch,if you know what I mean. It is the hollow screw that the cable goes through,if I was to back it out for more clutch about three or four turns it would come out. So am I about at the end of my clutch life or is there something else I can adjust later on for more clutch.

The cables stretch. Buy a new one and put it on.

You should also have an adjuster on the bracket that atatches to the cylinder right before the cable hooks to the lever that goes into the engine.

There should be another adjuster in the cable itself. Follow the cable along and look for the spot about an inch long where the rubber ends and there are like two nuts. This is another place to adjust the cable. It is recomended that you change your clutch cable once a year though.

Before you adjust the cable at the bottom, wind the perch adjuster so that the cable housing is all the way in, so that the cable is loose.(Edited: I kind of had it backwards the first time)

It has 48 hours on it now and I race mx,it has 15 races on it and plenty of practices.I was just wondering if you put new plates in if you have to get a new basket,inner hub and pressure plate. Are you suppose to put new clutch plates in every so often or are you suppose to wait until the basket is grooved on the fingers where the plates have hit before you put new clutch plates and clutch basket in.

I would open it up and look to see if the basket has grooves in it. I have not have much trouble with cables or baskets but I am a light clutch user. I typically swap out all the internals once the backet is toast, but know of many that keep pressureplate and inner hub and swap basket and new plates.

Clutch wear is determined by how much you use the clutch and the way you use it. If you ride the bike like a 2smoke and fan the clutch you are putting way extra wear on the clutch - this will be evident upon basket grooving visual.

GYTR and Hinson make much better clutch components than oem and they are much stronger and will last a lot longer:thumbsup:
