Anybody regret switching from WR toYZF450?

The obvious issue that I have is with the weight. A YZF is 30 lbs lighter. Huge trade off for an electric start. I dont care about the headlight, and will be doing a revalve anyways. The e-start is very nice, but it is not worth the extra weight.

Anybody make the switch and regret it?

Let's see if I can summarize. NO WAY!!!

In fact, it's the best decision I've made in a while. Without question a better bike and more fun to ride. The weight and suspension just made it a bear to ride. The difference is like night and day. I mean it's not even close. Unless you only ride trials or ride really slow, the WR serves little purpose. I do think the WR looks kick ass, but nothing is worth an extra 30LBS. NOTHING!:bonk::lol: :lol: :lol::thumbsup: :thumbsup: :busted::cheers:

Thanks Rick, Yeah, I am always pushing myself to go faster. That is what is makes me want to switch. I weigh 190 W/O gear, otherwise I probably would go with the YZF250.

I had a KTM 450XC, which is the lightest electric start 4 stroke - and it's completely set up for off road. It was still a pig after a day of riding. I have also had WRs and a 525. All heavy. If you are doing mellow trail riding with jeep roads, or dual sport riding, ok, but if you want to get down and dirty and really be able to spank the trails and have a bike that handles it - it's YZ450 all the way. This thing starts with one easy kick EVERY time, the chasis turns like a rail, lots of aftermarket stuff available (big tanks etc...) and the bike feels like a 125. It's a HUGE difference.

I made the switch in December, and so far I'm very happy. I started on a 00' WR then went to an 03' YZ which put a sour taste in my mouth. So went back to a WR in 05'. We ride pretty much every thing here in AZ from tight woods, desert single track, jeep roads, to the motocross track. Most of the racing I do these days is enduro qualifiers, and Hare Scrambles so the wieght of the WR was really hurting me, especially when you race against guys on a 250cc 2 smoker. I didn't want to go 2 stroke, so I choose the YZ450F.

I loaded the bike with after market parts for desert riding, and it rips. I have people in same motorcycle club thinking about switching to the YZ450 from 2 stroke, and heavy WR's.

The only thing I would like to do now is have the WR Tranny for riding jeeps roads that connect single track. It would be nice if Yamaha made a YZ-W 450 model with a wide ratio tranny like KTM makes the XC-W.

I would go for it, you can't go wrong.

INteresting posts here, i have a 426 and have been debating etting a wr or crf-x so i wouldnt be stuck overheating in tight trails, have a kickstand, and be one step closer to maybe makin it road legal.... but after coming from 2 strokes the 426 feels like a bear enough
