TDC - Ignition question

2 posts in this topic

How does the ignition know where TDC is? Does it just fire at x degrees before TDC every revolution (i.e. fire on the exhaust stroke AND compression stroke)?

I realize it knows the crank position but how can it know where the cams are?

I’m sure there is a simple answer and I’m curious as to what it is…

hick the engine has a wasted spark-it fires EVERY TIME the engine goes around.

the only way anybody does it any different is if they put the ignition on the camshaft. this though, is a bad move due to all the lash of the camdrive.

the only thing that wears out quicker is the plug!
