1993 Xr650l

Someone locally is selling a 1993 XR650L with 16k miles. They are asking $1700. Does that seem like a fair price? What kind of upgrades am I looking at for this bike to use it as a daily 60 mile commuter?

not bad. check if it smokes and if the engine makes any noise. not many changes are needed to do that kinda riding. although a pipe and jetting make a world of difference!

Can't say what upgrades till we know what is on it now ? Is it all stock ?

Yea, 1700 is a fair price. I have seen a lot of them with 5-7000 miles on go for 2000 to 3000 so you may be able to even get it cheaper ?

Have any pictures, does it need anything ?

Just to give you a comparison, this one here had 7000 miles on and went for 2550 and that's with a 500 dollar exhaust on.

Pretty sure it's a 93 also.

$1,700 is a steal if it runs good and hasn't been dumped a bunch of times. I paid $2,000 for a 93' just recently with 17,000 miles. I LOVE IT!

Bought a 94 for 22hundred CDN needed a little work.

The bike for sale doesnt look anything like that...I might have to verify the model in person.

Can anyone identify this bike from these little pics?

It very well might be a 93 with a 4 gallon or so plastic tank and painted side panels. Different seat or seat cover too.

93-99 all have white frames.

Does the guy have the stock tank yet? WITH graphics on ?

Nah, this at a car dealer, so it would be as is

 Is the car dealer that far away that you just can't look and see the year for yourself?

Call them up and ask!

Nah, its not far, they say 1993 dirt bike in their ad

thats a xl with the plastic tank. give it a real good inspection if its in good shape go for it.it looks like it already has the goods on it.

 Well, are you going to get it ?

Offer the guy 1400 and walk away if he doesn't bite. Tell him you really don't like the plastic tank and that is a few hundred right there for a factory replacement.

Pick on anything else that you feel it might need.

Wow, 60 miles is a hell of a commute for a dirtbike.

Ya, but I mainly want it for riding around town, on 4 wheeler trails, etc. If the commute doenst work out I can still drive my Dodge Ram 2500 CTD

Calling right now! Its still there, headin over, wish me luck

Good luck, man. I agree with offering him $13-1400, especially since it's at a car lot. As long as it doesn't smoke, valves aren't noisy, and it shifts thru all the gears, you're good to go.

For a 650L, that's nothing dude !!! The bike just laughs at a daily ride like that!

Post some good pictures of it too as those pictures suck.

amazingly the Honda 's and indeed the offraod dualsports like the XR650L tend to keep thier resale value, unless of course really hammered - but that is as with anything that has been beat and or neglected. A XR6650L in good shape and runniing well will always bring from 2 - 5K dependent only upon the year.

My recent trip to the Harley Davidson Dealer was intersting when I asked why do they cost more than a Honda crusier. Reply was that they keep thier resale value better, pa-shaw! so do most Honda's!

Bottom line in answering your question, 1700 is fair given it is excellent condition and runs well. A daily 60 miles commute would be no problem.

For sure!

A nice 93-98 can be worth just as much as the newer red ones in a lot of cases! Not only does the brand help but also being that it is the SAME bike for 14 years now!

I paid 3000 for this one and could have gottn a newer one for almost the same price but I'm not into the red on the L models.
