could a new starter clutch turn backwards?

1 post in this topic

Well I just replaced the starter clutch and gear 3 on my 03 WR450 and I was suss that when that when I put the gear into the starter clutch that it was going the wrong way than what the manual said but thought it was just me as it was new from yamaha , but now after puting all together when kicking the bike over its turning the starter motor and wont start unless I take the damper assembly out and then it starts straight away  so could this be the case that the clutch is backwards or have i done something else wrong?
