650L sub frame

5 posts in this topic

Been reading about weak sub frames on the 650L's.......What part of the frame is the sub frame? ..I am guessing its underneath the rear fender..or is it the entire frame from the engine back?

Where exactly is the weak point that needs to be kept an eye on?

Thanks.

One weak point is the bolt-on section under the rear fender.

If you re-inforce that you can then proceed to break the frame just behind where the sheet-metal brace goes between the rt-lft sides.

If you are going to put a lot of weight back there, its best to brace it with a bracket that goes to the buddy-peg holes, or fab a mount that takes the weight right down to the peg mounts.

It sounds to me like the frame is not strong enough to take a passenger, even though there are passenger pegs..

Like Dave said the weak point is the bolt on section under the rear fender. And yes the bike will hold a passenger.

Of course it is. The much hyped about "weak" subframe is where the rear fender bolts to. Brace it up and load it up.
