YZ vs WR 426?

24 posts in this topic

Hey guys, I have a few questions.

I have searched, but haven't found exact answers, so maybe you can help.

Basically, what are all the differences between a YZ426 and a WR426?

What do you prefer for your riding style?

And, what would you recommend for me? I ride dunes and deserts.

Also, should I wait for a deal on a WR or buy a YZ, because there is about 5 YZ's for every WR's in my area..

Thanks Guys!

Just got my Bike for $1900!

Came with

black excel rims and hubs

applied triple clamps with protaper bars

scotts steering stablizer

spare rim with paddle tire

DR. D complete exaust

GYTR frame guards and radiator gaurds

UNI filter

some grippy seat

some like new blue front and rear fenders, it has black fenders on it now

o and some crazy cool hot start thing up by the left hand.

These are my two new acquisitions, not bad for a 16 yr old huh? I found both of those deals

Different people like different things.

The YZF is a purpose-built MX bike.

Stiffer suspension for higher speed in the rough, and on hard landings.

More and snappier power.

Close ratio trans for closed course racing. (4 speed in '03-'05 models)

19" rear wheel.

Lighter, quicker, race bike handling.

The WR is built as an Off-Road/Enduro bike.

Softer ride.

Less power, but smoother low end performance.

Wide ratio trans with a lower low gear, and a higher fifth.

More weight, but better low speed manners.

18" rear wheel.

And the 450's were electric start.

due to being lighter the yz would probaly be a better dune bike, but the wr would be great for the desert.(big tank, good manners, taller gearing)

what are the weights on the yz and wr?

and can i do all the same mods for a yz on a wr?

what do i need to do to make a wr have yz power?

accel pump mod, grey/blue wire, retard the cam timing?

i can still use a 19" wheel on the wr right?

most of the mods to bring up a wr to yz power specs are free. but i wouldnt change it.

what makes you say that?

also, is the wr tranny that much of an upgrade for a duner from the yz?

well i would do the mods for the power, but i wouldnt mess with the tranny, its got taller gears therefore higher speed capability. its a 426 i dont think youll have a lack of power.

yah ok, i would be doing only free mods and rejet, i wouldnt be messing with the transmission. I was just wondering how much better or worse the wide ratio is for dunes.

wide ratio=higher speed=good for dunes

sounds good!

one more question, are all the yz and wr parts interchangeable? other than plastics?

Even the plastics interchange, but some things go together, like the seat and tank.

In the 426 models, the weight difference between the two isn't much at all if you take the lights of the WR.

One other thing that IS cool about the WR for desert use is the higher output electrical system, which would let you set up for riding at night much more easily.

thanks gray.

I'm thinking that the WR is more suitable for me.

I'll be keeping my eye out for a WR then!
