Best Exhaust for '06 YZ450F

Just wondering what the best exhaust is for the 06 YZ450. I am all about performance with the exception of a spark arrestor which I need to ride in the forests of Utah. Let me know what you know.

Dr.D sounds made to order. Get it with a USF sparky (removable). Good performance, good price.

Chm comes with the spark arestor makes good power $550

I love my MRD. You can get a sparky, and or quite core. $400 shipped.

Your going to get alot of people teling you what they have, but Dollar for dollar I would say get the Dr. D or MRD:thumbsup:

I've got a Dr. D w/ the sparky and am less than impressed with the muffler mount. I dropped the bike (came up over of a berm and tipped over) in a sandy turn, when I got back to the pits the rear wheel was scrubbing the muffler. I think their mount is a little flimsy, if I had to do it over again, I'd gone a different route (MRD) or stayed stock.

I bought the FMF Ti-Powercore which comes with the spark arrestor. The pipe is shorter, lowers the center of gravity, and isn't extremely loud (100db). I noticed great performance gains. For $300, you can't beat it. Let's say I am very pleased.

A but off topic but are the 2006 and 2007 exhausts interchangeable?

yes 06 07 are interchangeable, and pro circuit t4 sucks, but my white brothers carbon pro is the bomb.

I agree. I have an 07 and you can't go wrong with a MRD system.

I was looking into the same thing for my '06. I am leaning toward FMF or White Bros. Probably the FMF speed slip on.:thumbsup:

Slip on's are not worth the $$$ IMHO, especially for the 06-07. If you really want a power increase, or a change in your powerband you'll need a full system. The only thing a slip on will do is make your bike look better and your wallet lighter.

I got a Big Gun Evo Stainless(complete system) used, for $100. For the price it works pretty good. It added top end and smoothed out the entire curve (was already very smooth) and made the bike too loud.

I wouldn't spend $500 on one. But used, I'm running it. The stock system is pretty good.

the mags were saying that the dr. d was the best. my dad's going to get one for his bike (06 yz450) and when i get my bike i'll probably get one aswell (07 yz450)

So what is the best exhaust? I was thinking about putting on a header instead of the slip on first, what do you think? I was leaning toward FMF. Is there any companys that won't kill my wallet, but will give me good gains for the money?:thumbsup:

I have a "Two Brothers VALE M-7" stainless/aluminum slip on. It has a MSRP: of $362.98, but I bought mine off a dealer on ebay for $315.00 including shipping. It came with a spark arrester, and you can purchase different sound suppressor cones to lower the dB. It looks great on the bike and gives a better throttle responce then stock.

Not to be a smart a$$, but why the heck do you feel the need to pipe a YZ450F when it's going to be woods ridden?????

Save the $500 and buy a flywheel weight, and send your suspension off to get woods-valved.....

Sorry, I never could understand why guys quickly run out and buy a pipe when they rarely ever hold a 450 WO.....

Out of the 9 new bikes i've owned, I piped 2 of them (they were both sub-par performing 125's off the showroom floor at that time).

Pipes are a total waste of money IMO.....

not everyone rides in the woods. I race, and like to put some bling on my bike

I think saying that pipe's are a total waste of money, is quite a broad-brushed statement.......

My 04' Yz450f, definately runs better off the bottom-end, and mid-range than the stock unit. I ride both track and trails, and the Dr. D system gives better grunt from idle to mid-range. Plus I got it used for about $ 160.

Overall, Yamaha did a very good job with the stock exhaust system, so there isn't a HUGE difference when going with an aftermarket pipe.....compared to some of the other Japanese bike's (Honda, Kawi, etc.) The aftermarket pipes more or less refine where you want the powerband to be. The Dr. D is really nice for when I ride tight trails, off-camber that require sharp turns at low speed uphill. Before the stock exhaust was more likely to stall, with the Dr. D it tractor's right up.
