Scotts oil filter question.

The new Scotts oil filter I just bought did not have a rubber gasket on the side that goes in first. My question is, does it need it? My Stock filter had one on both sides. (YZ450F):)

It doesn't need a seal at the inboard end because there is nothing to seal there. The OEM types have a rubber base pad to increase the likelihood of a good seal at the cover without running the risk of crushing the much less sturdy paper or brass element.
