I do not know if it will actualy make everything last longer but, there was a study and it was said, that if all was new and the sprockets were out of sync then as a whole everything would last longer. I have not studied this myself but, run mine 15/48 most of the time. The sprockets last forever but, that might have something to do with them being Ironman sprockets. If both sprockets are odd or even then the same link on the chain will always land on the same teeth on each sprocket as it comes around. 14/48 and the chain links and sprocket teeth will always be in sync but, if it is 15/48 then they will be out of sync and the chain is said to last longer, because the the chain link will change what tooth it lands on each time around. 15/45, 15/47, 15/59, 14/46, 14/48, in sync; 15/46, 15/48, 14/45, 14/47, 14/49 out of sync.
