Flywheel weight installation

18 posts in this topic

I know some of you have installed flywheel weights. I was thinking about getting one for my bike and wanted to know if it was a pain installing the the weight and what special tools if any are needed?

You don't actually install a flywheel weight, it is a replacement flywheel with added weight. All you need for specialty tools is a flywheel puller. Hope this helps.

It really just depends, I have use bolted on plates before and you really need a drill press to do it properly... if it's an entire flywheel the whole process shouldn't take more than 30 minutes including draining the oil.

Run the bike for 90 seconds before hand, and you don't need to drain the oil, either.

GREAT TIP!!!! I never would have thought of that.

True; if you run the bike you don't need to drain, if it's been sitting for a while there will probably be a little oil in there, of course you could always lay the bike on it's side as well (turn off your fuel.)

If it sits for a week or two, it might all be in there.

Just finished this on my 06. Pretty darn simple. Had to buy a special flywheel puller, about $30. I was changing my oil and filter anyway so I drained it, changed out the flywheel, then filled with oil. Took about 15 minutes.

just put a GYT-2S297-50-50 Flywheel in mine it was actually pretty easy, just warm it and drain the oil, the puller was 30 some odd dollars.

can you guys tell me how the motor felt after adding more flyweel weight?

I don't have one, but have heard the power is alot smoother and they are less likely to stall in slow situations.

The motor feels awesome!!! I put the GYTR off road flywheel in my 07 and the difference is night and day. The bike will lug like a WR and has so much more useable power. It has been the best mod I have done to the bike by far.
