How do the bigger tires work for MX

I want to try the new bigger sizes front and rear. Has anybody tried the yet and can tell me what to expect. I run strictly mx in Socal so i am looking at the 745 Dunlops or 401/402 Bridgestones.

Don't know about the 745 Dunlop but the 756 rear I tried got a little too much traction for me.

Try some of the maxxis tires, they are great and much cheaper than dunlop and michelin

kenda's are even cheaper then maxxis's and work outstandingly(real word? lol)

boys! he doesn't want to know what manufacturers you like, for your terrain.

i use 742 90/100-21 and 120-80-19 on my 06 yz450f. they're ok, but in the norhteast, i cannott ride a rut. i acually love 'em, because i can ride outsied my ability on sketchy stuff, but cannot ride ruts at all.

i switched from a 952 80/100-21 front and 756 110/90-19 rear which was better. it's tough? try them both.

i run a 120 on my 450 and i love it

i currently have the stock setup for my YZ250F (D756 rear and D739 front) and when i see that it is necessary to replace my front or rear tire (whichever comes first) ill get a D756 rear and D756 front as well. good tires.

anyway, i dont exactly know the purpose... maybe its to prevent flats because as u land on it harder (mx) and u can pump more air into it... my dad has a TT-R250 and he haas 18 in. in the back and he pumps a lil less air than i do into my 19's... also the 18 might be for trail bikes only cuz when u pump less air into it, it grips the ground better by shaping the ground easier. (also prevents pinched tires).

Thanks guys. 984 you gave me what i was looking for. Ruts are a problem for me already so i am rethinking the 90 up front. I think i still may try the 120/80 19 in the rear since it would seem like they would not affect staying in the rutts as much. At some point i want to gwt a spare wheels set so the i will give them a try on both ends.

Well the front works well, but forget the rear. You are good for 4-5 rides before you need to replace it:thumbsdn: ...I'd suggest looking at your options.

they don't recommend a big rear tire with a regular front. i've been told that it messes up your handling. i can be wrong.

Make sure you have enough muffler clearance before you buy. I am running a Dunlop 120/90 19 756 rear with my White Brothers Alumium Pro with no problem, but it might side-swipe other aftermarket mufflers.

I just put on the new 742FA 80/100 21 front that comes standard on all new Hondas. When it stops snowing in Indiana I might actually get to test it out.

Bigger tires? I like the way the Bridgeston M401A works. It's a 90/100-21 and was designed for 450 four strokes supposedly. Helps counter that typical YZ frt. end push. Wears pretty decent too. The Dunlop 756 works real good at first but loses it's effectiveness after little wear. Never tried Maxxis.

Thats a good point 984. I was going to try the new Protaper clamps with the 22 mm offset to help with the push. I have the 756 now and it was good for about the first 2 weeks! Bridgestone is supposed to last a lot longer than Dunlops right.

the 120 rear makes the bike want to stand up in turns but does provide more hook up in the soft stuff, i'd rather have a bike that turned though

I went with a 120/90 19 last fall on my 450 and switched back to a 110. The bigger tire made the handling seem vague and slow. Also, the smaller tire seemed to follow lines and stay in ruts much better. For strictly trails/x-country, I would consider the bigger rubber, but for moto, I'll stick with the 110.

Has anybody tried the 120/80? It is supposed to help with the problem of the bike wanting to stand up.
