New here with a 2003 WR450 in Michigan... giddy up!!!

Recommended Posts

Howdy! well, I found this site the other day, but I thought I'd introduce myself, and then ask a few questions...

I finally found thumperfaq with the great descriptions of the free mods, and I believe all has been done, except the grey wire, which I'll probably do with a switch. so far all I've had to do is "re-align" (with a huge pry-bar) the rear subframe... fun stuff!

I'm looking to make my bike street legal, which is relatively easy here, however I can't find the VIN tag on the bike. can someone point me to it? I looked on the headtube and downtube. maybe it's on the top tube under the tank, or....? (I did see a sticker on the downtube, but no 17 digit VIN on it... right?!)

so, those others of you from Michigan... drop a line! I'm open to new groups to ride with etc. (I'm in SE Mich...) :bonk:

and finally, the new b-e-a-uty ready to get used! this was taken upon safe arrival back at my house. she's only got 158 miles on her!

I'm thinking my VIN is on the right side of the headtube. I'll get back with you when I get around to shoveling the 3 foot snow drift that's keeping me out of the garage.

Anyhow, nice grab on the bike. It looks amazingly clean. Any of you lower Michigan boys are welcome to drop me a line if you want to ride some true Yooper trails around Marquette. And if you drive a few miles north towards the Keweenaw it's real lawless territory. Where else can you ride on the beach without worrying about salt eating away at your bike? Ok, maybe at the Silver Lake Dunes, but not untouched, deserted beach.

yep, got hand guards from the last bike...

hmmm... the CCC. do they also send me my ORV sticker for the year?

I'm in Berkley. not much good riding down here. I heard about some clubs, do you know the names/sites/etc...

some recommendations on tires would also be appreciated. some nice soft ones I understand are good for our sand...? (mine are "as new", but seeing as how cheap tires are, and what a difference they make, I'll probably throw some at it pretty soon...)

Here's a link to the CCC.

You can get a sticker from the CCC but it's quicker to get them everywhere else. There is a group called the nomads, they post in the North forum to announce rides, they usually ride on sundays.

Do you have the DNR Maps?

I've got a Pirelli Mt44 Sand tire I think on the front and a kenda trackmaster on the rear, both DOT tires and they seem to work good. Everyone seems to rave about the Michellin S12's I think. I never have trouble with sand, maybe i'm just used to it.

If you guys are riding the UP or Upper Lower ( ? ) Boy does that sound screwed up... drop me a line. I gotta couple of Canadian buddies that love riding MI trails. We are all of varying talents from Experienced to getting back in the sport after a almost 20 year hiatus... But all love rto ride and we would be right now were it not for the blinding snowstorm we are having?!?! again ... I thought it was Spring?!?

I live in Grand Rapids and I just got a 2002 wr 426 three weeks ago. I got it cause it was a smoking deal.....less than 100 miles on it too. I use to ride a lot as a teenager but I traded it in for sportbikes...now I am into both, and I have a quad and two snowmobiles also. The only thing good about being older is you have more money to buy more toys!!!! Looking for people to go ridding with and also looking for someone who has thier bike set up for michigan ridding. I did all the free mods and my bike runs like crap....I just got the JD jet kit and new fuel screw. Since it is 30 degrees I havnt messed with it yet.....Let me know if someone found a good jd combo for ridding in lower michigan. Anybody can hit me up on email at gregpavlovic@aol.com. I have a truck and tailer and will go anywere at anytime to ride! I like to ride fast but not crazy....and by the way...I already miss my old honda XR never had to turn a wrench on it but to change the oil and tighten the chain.....

Welcome to the site, I am located on the west side of lower Michigan, near Grand Haven. I have a 2003 WR450f with a full Yoshimura exhaust and the James Dean jet kit. Bike runs great, starts easy, and no backfire. Michelin S12's are the tires to run in the Baldwin, White Cloud, Twin Lakes, and CCC trails. Couple times a year I hit the Silver Lake sand dunes, and have been to Drummond Island 3 times. My bike is street legal, and I have the supermotard rims as well. Keep checking the North forum, we usually post up rides. Here are some pics:
