replacement rear fender for 650L

Recommended Posts

XR600 rear fenders bolt right up. I've run a couple of different ones on mine. I had a Maier on it initially:

I recently put a Cemoto that I've had laying around:

I believe I got the Maier from Dennis Kirk; it may be available from the TT store cheaper. I don't know if the Cemoto is still available; XR's Only no longer offers it. Maybe you could find it on ebay.

Is that tail light as bright as the stocker? Do you have any idea how much weight you saved? Is the rear brace bar still there or did you remove?

I really like the looks of what you did with both fenders, want to stay safe for street too though...

thanks

I'd say weight savings isn't much; maybe a couple of pounds at the most. The brace comes off for either one; you can leave it on but I don't think you would like the way it looks and it isn't needed. As Goblin said, the BD tail light tucks up under the Maier fender and you loose the side reflector the stock tail light provides. I had to use a Dremel tool to relieve the lip on the back side of the Maier fender so it wouldn't block part of the tail light. The BD tail light is plenty bright and provides clear light down on the license plate. Some states, this isn't a requirement; but it is in Texas and I've been denied an inspection sticker for not having it. The color of the Maier is closer to the stock plastic.

WHY DID YOU CHANGE FROM THE MAIER TO THE CEMOTO?

jbird, are those LED blinkers? Where did you find them? I'm thinking about cleaning up the rear fender with a Baja Designs taillight and some smaller blinkers, but I can't seem to find LED blinkers at a decent price and I want them to be bright.

No, they are not LED; but are fairly bright. Most of the bike shops have them and I've seen them priced from $7 - $17. I believe Cycle Gear sells them also.

WHY DID YOU CHANGE FROM THE MAIER TO THE CEMOTO?

I personally like the looks of the Cemoto; it looks more like a CR rear fender. The Maier is closer in color but is shorter and I just don't care for the shape. Just a personal opinion and you know what they say about opinions ... :applause:

Thanks for the info on the lights jbird... I have been having trouble finding something decent online and there are no local shops. I'll check out cycle gear.

Also, the ones I used are not DOT compliant. So, if your bike has to be inspected, it may not pass with those. I like the ones TREADMARKS has on his (picture on the previous page).

Here's a bunch of different types offered by the Thumper Talk store - goes on for several pages:

Here are some turn signals that look similar to the ones I've got but are LED:

Here's CG's web page with several different options:

Due to the fact that the LED's draw less current you need to get the flasher for the LED lights and remove the turn signal indicator bulb in the dash area. Excess current feeds back through the filament in the dash bulb and makes them all blink if you dont. The parts can be had here reasonably: http://www.procycle.us/main/dskit.htm

This guy is real helpful and doesn't mind talking to you about this subject.
