thanks for your help, mine starts with CG can i work it out from that?

Cheers Dave

List your VIN number, mine is in the picture below, notice that the 10th character counting from left to right is the year -> i.e. 6 for 2006, that character is right before the production unit number, i.e. A005294, mine was the 5294th bike that came of the assembly line destined for the USA.

Since you're in England, your VIN may look differently, post it and maybe we can figure it out - or call your dealer and ask them how to get the year from reading the VIN, hopefully they will know.

For future, you could tell that the 2001-2002 yzf's have different shrouds and side panels than the 2003-2005. Also, it should have the make and model on the top of the frame by the dip stick. :applause:

Is that the vin on the motor or on the frame?

Regardless where it was made, the jin should start with JYACG

Look on the steering tube on the right hand side. If it does not start with JYAC, just do everyone a favor and call a rep, or even call the dealership.

Actually, here's a way to find out:

Look on the carb on the left hand side. You will see numbers and letters engraved into the carb. What is this number?

Look at the kickstarter and you should see 3 letters/numbers on the shaft (most likely starting with a 5) What is this code?

a VIN will be 17 digits long. If you don't have 17 digits in your number, it's not the VIN

The VIN will be the number on the frame. You want to check the 10th digit

there as stated previously. That will give the year for most any bike except a

real antique. We have a chart that shows the years for what the 10th digit

is down at the bike shop. That info must be available somewhere on the web

as well.
