I just bought a XR 600 for my son...what is the best way to gear it down for tighter trails so it will go slower in first gear?

Thank you

The simple thing to do is just get a smaller front sprocket. Depending on the year the stock gearing is 14/48. That's what I have on my 600 and I find my self using the clutch a lot in the tight nasty stuff. You can try a 13 on the front. It is much easier to change than the rear. Take a look at what is on there now as you never know what the previous owner might have done.

13 / 48 works for me. I found it a simple change and when I go to the desert, I'll usually switch back to 14 / 48.
