Dirt Bike 07 suggested mods agree??

Here is what Dirt Bike suggested to do for the 07 WR450. Sounds like many people are saying there is no need to cut the grey wire any longer.

Throttle stop. No brainer yes do it.

Cut the gray wire. What do you all think on the 07? Will it make any difference in performance?

Remove inner baffle. How much louder is the bike without it and does it make any difference in power?

Pull the airbox plugs. Yes airflow is good.

Remove air injection system and plug holes with YPAD kit. Sounds like a good idea.

Install new jets.

175 main

DTR-4 needle in slot #4

50 pilot

45 leak jet

110 air jet

Any comments on some of these mods?

I have done the "basic" mods from your list.

Grey Wire - cut

AIS - Removed (I used the GYTR AIS removal kit but I used a block off plate from an ATV for the exhaust port...)

Airbox Snorkel - Removed

Sliencer Restrictor - Removed. It is still very quiet! (I just ordered the Pro Moto Billet 05+ WR250/450 Silent Insert...less restrictive than the stock silencer even with the "pea shooter" removed...and slightly louder...about 96db.)

Adjustable Needle - Circlip in position 4.

Replace Pilot Jet - #48 installed.

Mixture Screw adjustment - 2 turns out from lightly bottomed.

The bike is lively and strong and hauls my butt around just fine.

Thanks for the reply.

Have you experienced any of the low speep/RPM flameout that Dirt Bike talked about happening to them. The bike I road the other day at the dealership did not have any problems.

Why the 48 pilot over the 50?

I am switching from 2 stroke so need all the info possible. I went from someone who split cases etc to 4 stroke novice overnight.

I'm guessing the 48 cause thats what comes in the AIS kit with fuel needle and throttle stop. I did exactly as Jay with awesome results. The slow speed stall is'nt a bike problem, the rider just has to adapt. It took me about one mile on a tight goat trail to get it wired. My smoker has been parked since Santa brought me a thumper. You will love you're new diesel.

Agreed. The #48 ships with the kit...#45 Pilot ships on the stock bike. I forgot to mention the shorter throttle stop...my bad.

I have not experienced any slow speed stall issues. The throttle response is crisp...in fact, you could probably argue that it's too crisp right off idle especially in 1st gear.

I spent a fair bit of time thumping around in 2nd gear because the throttle hit is tamer. You can lug the beast and it's still happy to power you around.

p.s. Oh yeah...one other thing that may or mat not be related to the de-rsitriction changes...I had to adjust idle speed a couple of times now. It will stall when you pull the clutch in if idle speed is set too low.

What about the other changes mentioned?

On mine only the pilot ,the needle with clip on 4th, throttle stop, and mixture screw. Do the knock-out at the bottom of the carb so you can turn the mixture screw in the future. Mine gets ridden from sea level to 3000ft. HARD!

I did not change the leak, air, or main jets...those remain stock.

I may consider making changes to those item later this season when it starts warming up outside.

As was mentioned above...punch out the little block plate for the mixture screw (very simple to do) so that you can make screw adjustments.

Great information guys! Thanks a ton.

Sounds like most guys are doing only the throttle stop, grey wire, airbox mod, and exhaust baffle.

And, only changing the main jet and needle position.

Maybe Dirt Bike caused there own problems by over doing it.

One last question. I have read that there is no improvement by clipping the grey wire on an 07. Anyone have info if this is true?

There is degredation in performance from removing or cutting the gray wire.

I was told by the dealership and the instructions in the GYTR AIS removal kit to cut the gray wire.

Do it and then forget it.:applause:

you say you had a degradation in performance. do you mean an increase or decrease? Degradation to me usually meant worse performance.

The grey wire mod increases the performance by switching the CDI to the YZ ignition setting, thereby compensatin for the increased revs and longer throttle screw, i.e. more fuel. The only difference in the '07 is its location, which is behind one of the side plates. BTW, don't cut it, just push it out of the connector with a small punch or screwdriver then tape it off and fill its hole with silicone...SC

dirt bike tends to think they are a bit smarter than they realy are.

go with the 48 pilot jet. the air jet is part of that circuit, they probably had to increase the size when they went to the 50 pilot jet.

the gytr ais removal kit is a good value for what is included and the instructions that come with it. some might argue that the jd needles are better but you'll have to decide how much money you want to spend.

try a 40 leak jet. do a search on leak jet info. there is a ton available.

keep an open mind as you tune this bike. it is not a two stroke. it'll take a while longer to break in. one mistake new owners make is to tune thier wr's in the driveway. the first time they snap the throttle open hard and the engine bogs a little, they think the jettings all wrong. ride it and see what you've got before you get to far from the basics.

I have made all the "free" mods to my 07. That includes the throttle stop, grey wire and removed the baffle in the exhaust. The bike runs great for me. I am interested in the jetting adjustments though. I just came back from Clearcreek which has a higher elevation than where I normally ride and the bike was incredible. This makes me wonder if I am too lean for everywhere else.

Oh, I did not remove the AIS and I have very little popping if any. I see no reason to remove it at this point. I also left in the binoculars (air box). I haven't decided on that just yet. I kind of like the idea of slowing down any water entry.
