Hello, from a uk BRP Owner

Hi Folks,

I am the proud owner of a 2001 BRP. I have a few questions that I hope you could answer for me please.

I have carried out afew mods so far

1, Uncorking airbox, new intake manifold and removal of the tailpipe insert.

2, Renthal Bars.

3, Acerbis Tecnix front mudguard.

4, right hand footrest mod.

5, Supermotard excel rims, braking 320mm front disc and caliper.

There are a few mods I would like to carry out but this is where I would like advice.

1, Exhaust which system is best to get

a, Full Akrapovic system £550

b, FMF 2007 Powercore4 tailpipe & FMF powerbomb Headers £400

2, Is it worth getting the intake ports polished?

IMO,assuming the previous owner replaced the clutch bushing (seizing problem on the 2000-2001) then suspension for supermoto would be next followed by a stage 1 (more midrange power) or stage 2 (more top end power) cam.

Exhaust is the least benefit for the money spent.

I would go with the FMF or ProCircuit. I think the ProCircuit T-4 is one of the best exhaust systems out there. Its not quiet though. The FMF is decent, but the Powerbomb portion is really close to your leg and gets very hot. I melted some pant legs on it already. Either system, I would suggest using some header wrap near your leg area as a heat shield to keep your leg safe. Also, one of the head pipes on the FMF PowerBomb will touch or come really close to your radiator.

I would get a cam before I would polish intake ports. Most race cars do not have polished intake ports. My buddy works for Toyota Racing Development CNC machining cylinder heads for various race cars and trucks. Maybe that sheds some light on the intake port question.

If you want the trickest, sickest race motor, then you port the intake and exhaust, increase valve size, install new cam/springs/retainers, higher compression oversize piston, plated oversize cylinder, bored out Edelbrock carb or bored out stock carb (1.5mm), and the side panel cut-out. One of the hush-hush tricks is to neck down (grind away) the intake valve stems where the airflow passes by about 1-1.5mm on the diameter. Now you have a race gas only monster that sacrifices low-end power for more top end power. It will be fast for a XR650R but a 600cc sportbike like a CBR600RR will still stomp it for power.

Hi Folks,

Well I have managed to do some mods to my bike :applause:

I changed the setup to supermotard, The changes I have made so far.

1, Excel Wheels

2, Braking discs

3, Alloy tank which uses CRF450 shrouds

4, Full Akrapovic system

5, Renthal Bars

I also had it run on a dyno to have the carburetion adjusted, It is currently 58BHP at the Rear wheel and can clock up 110mph with (14/47 Gearing I think this needs changing*****). I dont think I want to play around with the engine too much as I would prefer to keep reliability to a maximum.

Any Ideas on changes which wont effect reliability?

It is strongly NOT recommended to port or polish the XR650R head as it almost always results in power loss. To run as designed the bike needs the intake restrictions removed, the carb jetted, a cam and exhaust. I can personally vouch for the edelbrock pumper carb and Hot Cams Stage II cam.

I would have to agree with Big Red. Thats one sweet lookin XR. :applause: There is stacks of stuff on here and people willing to give you advice and help. I have tuned my WR to good effect as a result :excuseme:

I have thought about Graphics and would like some but I just havent seen any I like yet. I like things plain but would like something :applause:

I think the headlight is the next thing to change maybe
