2007 WR450 Seat seems REALLY hard...

19 posts in this topic

For those of you who have spent some time riding your new bike,

how comfortable is the seat? I have seen and sat on a few of these bikes,

and the seat seems to be no better than a 2x4! Almost as bad as the

KTM's from several years ago...

If I am mistaken, please tell me.

Thanks.

jams229, I agree with you about the stiffness of the seat. I think a cinder block would be more comfortable. We ride alot of trails and fast fire roads. We sit down about 25% of the riding day - that's enough! My buddy and I are looking into a seat from GUTS RACING or WWW.SICASSRACING.COM.

SICASS has standard soft, standard super soft, tall soft and tall firm seats.

I am going with standard soft They all come with a carbon fiber look.

Pretty cool! Hope this helps you out.

The amount of time I sit is minimal, so when I do sit the frame would feel fine. My seat is fine, just eat 2 cheeseburgers a week thats all we ask, ok maybe 3:applause: and the seat will be just fine.:ride:

After a LOT of experimenting, I have concluded that a harder seat is more comfortable than softer for my riding style, and body configuration. 6'0" and 235lb. I ride 2000 to 3000 klm per month for my work in Cambodia. Using superman underware is a must. My favorites are MSR , Fox and EVS also make good stuff. The linning keeps the chafe to a minimum.

The BIG issue though is why the butt gets sore. The answer is oxygen deprivation to the cells in your butt. Just the same reason people get bed sores. You sit too long, restricting blood flow to those cells. They respond by screaming for you to GET UP and let some blood flow their way. Regardless of your bike seat, this is important. I habitually ride at least a 10/20 ratio. 10klm standing and 20 sitting minimum. Terrain also dictates posture. The key is to NOT let your butt get to the pins and needles stage. Make a habit of standup riding.

Regarding the seat density: Soft foam seats tend to mush and pinch my butt, creating more surface area that restricts my blood flow. My 04'WR stock seat is great it that it is firm, yet absorbs hard shocks to the tail end. One man's "Bare End" opinion.

Its like cycling, ask Lance Armstrong. The more you ride the more you get used to it. eventually you wont even notice not having a seat at all. Spend the time in the saddle and get used to it. If you want comfort buy an sofa

I already have a sofa - it's called a Suzuki DRZ 400.

Welcome to Yamaha. All the seats are hard. Buy a gutsracing.com softseat. Monkey but will be a thing of the past. Im a lazy sit down rider and this seat will go on any bike I ever buy.

Isn't it irritating when other people tell YOU how YOU should ride YOUR bike??!! :censored: SHUT UP!! Ride yours the way you want to, and I'll ride mine the way I want to!! I have an 06 WR450, and I like to sit alot. The stock seat sucks, so go with a GUTS soft, and you'll have monkey butt no-more!! If you send them your seat pan, they'll install the foam and cover for free. Great guys.

If guys are bitching about seats, they surely don't enjoy riding enough. Its all about the riding not the seat. suck it up and ride the bike.

You should know how the seat feels, youre never off it. Next time trying standing up so you can see over my dust so you dont get lost on the weekend ride. Using your skommeling wrist as an excuss is old news. If you rode fast enough you wouldn't have to sit.

Muz

You guys are a bunch of Wusses ! You need to slide bare butt across rough concrete (like your dog does on the carpet when his butt itches) to get in shape to ride. If you have any butt hair left, you're not trying hard enough !!!

Seats? We don't need no freaking seats!!!

Go forth and draw fire !!!!!

STS.

Jeez, my dog wasn't scratching his butt on the carpet, he was wiping it on the carpet. Brings a whole new meaning to the phrase "skid marks".
