Replacing timing chain????

4 posts in this topic

My riding buddy is going to refreshen his top end (2003 Yz450f)

He's replacing the piston and rings, the gaskets, wrist pin, and circlips.

I told him that people recommend replacing the timing chain, due to possibly stretching. Doe's he have to split the cases to do this?, or can it be done without splitting the cases??

Any help appreciated...

thanx

it can be done if you remove the flywheel. but I think that the tensioner is also important replacing

Yeah, He's got the Yammi manual, but from talking to him over the phone he said with a cursory glance that it didn't seem to give that much info on the procedure. I'm glad you gave the link.... I'll have to consult my 04' manual (i'm guessing there's little difference from 03' to 04') I'm interested as well, because my 04' is probably overdue for piston swap/timing chain change.
