Rear tire

I'm looking for a bigger rear tire on my 2001 YZ426. I'm looking for a 130 but i'm not sure if that big of a tire fits on a 19 inch rim. Whats the word?

It should fit. I've run a Maxxis IT in a 120/90x19, and it was OK. Heavy, but OK. Most of the larger-than-110 sizes are built to be mounted on the same 2.15-2.25 rims anyway.

I put a 120 on my 04 450 19" rim and had no troubles. A 130 should fit:confused:

The Maxxis IT seems, to me at least, be slightly narrower than other tires of the same size...have you noticed this?

I often run a D773 in the 110/90-19 and it is very close to my chain...so close that I would not be willing to go any larger. When I had the same size Maxxis IT mounted there was much more room between the tire and chain and I could see being able to use a 120.

Michelin makes a 130/70-19 but I think that is the equivalent of a 110/90-19.

Two things to remember are that tire sizes tend to be more of an estimate (other than the rim diameter), and the size is measured at the tire body, not the tread. Tread pattern affects the overall width quite a bit.

I've run a 120 Dunlop 952 on my WR450 and it fit fine so the 130 should as well. Good for sand.

The Michelin 130/70-19 isn't much wider than a 110 in reality. Although it should be, the Michelins run small, so it may be a waste. The D773's are mud/sand tires and have taller lugs, so they are a bit wider than normal.

I like the 120/80-19 size tires. 120/90-19's are very tall and heavy. They are so tall that you can feel the difference in gearin and so heavy that it can change the jumping and braking characteristics of the bike. The 120/90-19's are generally just a hair shorte than a 110-90-19, the same weight and wider.

If you are trail riding and want more sidewall protection, the 120/90-19 is the ticket, otherwise a 120/80-19 is the bomb. The Michelin 130/70-19 is useless IMHO.
