you won't be sorry...........:applause:

I put the NFLR needle in as well...I'm still getting quite a bit of backfire and you and I are running the exact same jetting. I'm starting to think it's that damn slip-fit FMF muffler/header.

Maybe I should put the stocker back on and see if that helps...at least I would know if it's the muffler.

Could be you have an exhaust leak causing the backfire. Wouldn't take much of a leak to cause it to backfire.

has to be exhaust leak at the heasder/muffler connection or fuel screw needs adjusting -

Is the back fire as you let off the throttle? or throughout ?

It's when I let off the throttle...pop, pop, bang.

The fuel screw is at 1.5 turns

Lets see if we can set the record straight. There are alot of good things with forums and that is transfering good and helpful information. The other is that there is alot of misinformation that gets started from people who are not knowledgeable of what they are talking about. Lets clarify the facts in regards to the carb mod. The picture on the Zip Ty web site of the carb with the jet in the back side. That is a picture that was taken of a carb with the Factory pro jet kit installed. The factory pro jet kit has a jet modification to the major air jet (MAJ). That is the hole that goes from the backside of the carb to the emulsion tube in the center of the carb. This is not part of part of the zip ty modification and that is not the emulsion tube. That hole is the major air jet. The emulsion tube is the tube the needle slides in and hold the main jet. The modifications that Zip Ty is making on the carb is race proven for years on succesful race team bikes. Zip Ty cannot tell everyone what they are doing as this industry has a great habit of copying. Alot of people are guessing as to what is being done, and they will continue to guess as we are not going to explain what we are actually doing. We cannot devulge all of the secrets as zip ty continually test new ideas and products to help improve the bikes. If you have any questions at all in regards to the modification please call zipty and they would be glad to explain everything to you and educate. Let sjust make sure that forums stay accurate and not spread misinformation. If you would like to go to a site that has alot of usefull information, go to the factory pro web site and they have great information explaining how carbs work.

bigred97,

I already purchased the JD jet kit. Is the Zip-ty Carb mod compatible with the JD blue and red needles or do I have to go back to the stock needle?

Thanks for setting us all straight on this. My misunderstanding of the emulsion tube vs the major Airjet probably caused most of this confusion. I do not believe anyone has spoken negatively about ZipTy Racing. I am sold on this mod for my 06 and that is why my 03 carb was also sent. I will promote things that work for me and that is all I tried to do here. I hope I did not cause any misunderstanding or misguided attempts to falsely promote this mod and I agree your trade secrets are to be kept...secret. Thanks for all your help to me and others on the phone...

what size leak jet does ZIPTY INSTALL

resetting the TPS with a voltometer

So do you still need to do this if you just unplugged the TPS, not taken it apart like you did?

I sent in my carb, but I've heard nothing about having to reset the TPS?

I'll give a ride report once it's back together. They are very easy to talk to and very helpful. Nice guys.

Here's the big question I have.. I have an 05 wr450 with all free mods done and running a 168main 48pilot, zipty screw at 1.5 turns out and 40 leak, sea level average 70F outside. Of course like every other wr450 on the planet I have that off idle bog, and when I installed the quickshot it made it twice as bad. Is the zipty carb mod designed to completely remove the low end bog and improve overall performance of the powerband? Most of all though I want the bog gone. It's all I really care about.

$100 is a small price to pay for a solution to my 1.5 year long issue with this garbage. I still cannot fathom how Yamaha can build such a great bike, but had an absolute team of morons tune the damn carburetor. It's like a lawn mower mechanic tuning a jet engine!

Thanks!

That is my expirence with the mod. My bike feels like a totally different bike because of Zip Ty. It ran good before, now it's much better. You need to make a YZ carb out of your WR carb. Call and talk to them, they can help.:applause::lol:
