WR450 assault on Dakar

Here we go again. Time to cheer on our WR450 riders! The Dakar starts this weekend!

David Fretigne leads the Yamaha attack again for 2007! Nearly 60 highly modified Yamaha WR450's will try and finish this grueling 15 day endurance race!

Dakars my favorite all time race. About time blue steps it up and goes for the big one. Where do I sign up for the waiting list for this beast. Now if they would just start supporting the Baja 500 and 1000 more with pit support and logistics, we would tear the red team up!!!!! That things crazy looking. Honda , KTM beware theres a new sheriff in town.

Any good sites where we can see the leader board and times at the end of the stages?

It would be neat to see a list of detail mods that was done to that bike.

Go team Yamaha. ..and Mike Kay(Irondude) as well

Got to love having 4 fuel tanks (9 gallon total) and with an on board GPS and electonic diagnostics display dash board!

Is there anything "Yamaha" left on this bike. I can't see it if there is.

Corrected the last picture. Blue KTM's can fool you sometimes. Here is David Fretigne's riding the Yamaha WR450

Yes, its a great race... I'd love to ride Fretignes 2 wheel drive for a weekend...

do you think ktm are looking for a win have you seen the amount of ktms enterd  thats shocking

come on wr guys

One quick question: How much do those highly modified wr's weigh??? By the looks of things they've gotta be pushing 400# wet...

Well I know for a fact they are carrying 63 lbs in fuel when full.Holy crap thats alot.

do you think ktm are looking for a win have you seen the amount of ktms enterd  thats shocking

come on wr guys :(

Note that the KTMs are 660 engine sizes and the WRs usually do well in the lighter class. David Fretigne has one in the 450 class size in years past. Hard to beat the hp of the big KTM in the desert.

The Dakar WR450s are just under 400. lbs with full fuel tanks. The KTMs 660's are 30 lbs heavier!

Check out the cool video on Radio Live preview: ( make sure you right click the screen and zoom to full screen )

Nice vid!!! Wish this cold rain and snow would go away. Dust doesn't sound too bad right now.

Great shots Rosta! The details of the mods in those pics is amazing! Oil & coolant tanks and built into the skid plate are so cool!
