FCRMX41mm carb, 2005 CRF450R forks, clamps, braking brakes, BRP submount CRF450X battery ontop of airbox, XR650L electrics, XR650l seat cover with ceet hard foam, rewound stator - 250watts, protapers, CR brakes, IMS pegs, OEM Xl600 crankshaft - new beleive or not from the local Honda dealer for only $700 - this is the key to making estart work on the 600 as the 650 parts will not fit.

Would you also beleive the TT DRZ400 kikcstand bolted right on???

You know the biggest hurdle was dealing with people who would say parts wont fit etc - sudco were the worst - they categorically stated the FCRMX would not fit - it bolted right on!!

For the swap you'll need:

CR500 front end (complete)

XR600R

I used a rolling chassis from a 1995 CR500 that had its motor go toward a CR500AF conversion. I believe these are very common and cheap now. I got mine for $700 (complete with new TeraFlex rear and Mich M12, super duper levers, improved shock) and I over paid.

The actual swap is very easy.

1) Take off the front ends of both bikes. This takes about an hour depending on your experience and access to tools (I have no lift so I hang the bikes from the roof of my garage).

2) Take the fork tubes off and the upper clamp off. This leaves you with a bottom clamp and stem.

3) Take the bottom clamps and stems to your favorite machine shop. Get the stems pressed out ($20 for both stems to be pressed out and in again).

4) The CR500 stem will need to be turned on a lathe to accept an XR600 bearing. Having the XR600 stem available for the machine shop to measure was important. Cutting the CR500s stem was $40.

5) Have the shop press both stems back in.

6) Put the bike back together. I had my 600 stripped down to the engine and frame. Putting the front and rear together and getting the bike back on its tires took about 5 hours. I'm no mechanical genious; the last time I had a bike apart was 1999 or 2000. I also don't have a manual.

The difficulity, for me at least, is routing the wires and cables. The CR500 clamps come with rubber mounted bars that are taller than the 600's bits. It took about two hours of futzing to get things close to right. I'm a stickler for details and I'm not very happy yet.

Yes. The CR500s axle, space between the forks, wheel bearings, etc, are all different.

Maybe the 600's wheel can be made to fit with new bearings, but its much easier to just swap the whole front end out.

i used a 2001 cr125 front end on my 96. I also used the stock xr stem and had a couple of bushings machined to press into the cr bottom clamp as well a bushing for the top clamp. Then bolted it all up.
