Front and Rear Sprocket change up

I am looking to lower the ratio on my 2000 xr 600r. I was wandering if anyone has done this before and what is a good combo for the front and rear sprocket.

14-45 is stock, try 13-45 would be good for tight stuff and still give about 80mph top end. Just buy quality sprockets to minimize chain rub, would not take long to cut through the frame. Also changing the counter sprocket is a lot cheaper than playing around with rear sprockets, and has a more drastic effect! good luck let us know what combo works for you.

On my XR600, I like a 14/47 for all around riding. Only if it got real technical I would run 13/47. With the 14/47, it would rip up hills in 2nd gear that my 525sx does in 3rd gear.

okay this is a rule of thumb,1 tooth on the counter shaft is the same as 4 on the rear,the smaller your counter is the harder it is on the chain,so if you want to gear down and are replacing chain and sprockets go up 4 on the rear and keep the stock countershaft size.xx

The quick,easy, and cheap thing to do is just get a one smaller front sprocket. I'm pretty sure that 14/48 is stock and that's what I run. For the technical stuff a 13/48 would help. Don't go smaller than 13 as each tooth smaller wears the chain more.

i did 14/45 which is OK for dirt but its not near as good as 14/48 but it was good for both the street and dirt.

i thought 14/48 was stock.. that is what came on my bike and the guy didn't change anything... if you are strictly off road and rarely use fifth or ever top your bike out in the dirt i would definately go 13. but if you are a dualsport type guy or do long stretches i really think 14/48 is a great combo. that is what i use on the street and it gets it done in the woods also. 13 would be better but ya can't have the best of both worlds

Top end is only about 120kph but she goes like a shower of shit on the trails.

Yes, I was wrong :confused: 14/48 is the stock gearing on a xr650R.

15/45 is stock on the L. 14/50-52 is what guys around here are running.

I'm running 13/50 on my 650r and it works great for the riding I do. When I need a new chain I'm going to go to 13/51.
