hey i wanna get a cheap registable bike and was looking at the wr426's becaz i know 2 people with 400 and hate them becaz of the bad things that ahve hapenned. 1 of them got a 426 and loves it. i was wondering if anyone has heard of the wr500 i hadnt before i saw them on aussie trading post. they are 93 and 94 models, 2 stroke and are $ 2250 aus. i was wondering if they are registable for here in aus? ive looked but havent found anything. and if anyone has heard about them do they have any problems and enough power(sure they would)????

thanks will

A 2-stroke 500 I am sure it has plenty of power. My friend rides and old IT 490 crazy power.Don't know about the other stuff.

Its either a wr 250 2 stroke, or a ktm or gas gas 300 2 stroke, or a cr/kx 500 2 stroke, thats all i know of, havent heard of a wr/yz 500 2 stroke or a 4 stroke.

maybe a wr chassis with a cr500 2 stroke engine in it. that would be fun as a road registrable trail bike.

There was a WR500. It was a 2-stroke air-cooled motor though. They are not the most attractive.

there very ugly but loads of power. my next door neighbor has one and hes running a 150 tire on it and it hardly ever gets traction. it rips in the dunes

Haven't heard of the 500, but I used to have a 1995 WR250 2-stroke. Great bike, lots of power.

They were based on the air cooled YZ 465/490 engines. They had tons of power, but tended to detonate if pump gas was used. I think that they were only made in 1994. Probably a good reliable play bike. I still think my old YZ465 was the fastest bike I've ever had (my current bike is a WR450)

One of my riding buddies has a 1992 WR500. They were only made in 92 & 93, and possibly 94. I have ridden it a few times and have to admit that it is a pretty good bike. It does vibrate alot, but that is to be expected with any big bore 2 stroke. With the wide ratio tranny it is a great desert bike. It has been a very reliable bike so far, it's even on it's original piston and rings. Although I love my 426, I would have no problem recomending a good clean WR500 if you can get it for a good price.

Could it be a big bore (aftermarket) WR500 ??

I sold mine last year. It was a 92'

Great for lugging around the desert. I had it for 4 years and had no problems.

Wished I still had it.

I will insert a picture on here if someone tells me how?

i thought that the WR500 was a husky

Do your friend a favor and recomend to him to replace that old piston. I've got a spare gear box in my garage with blown cases. I ran the original piston to long.
