Won't Idle without choke on

My 2005 bike has never wanted to idle well.I had the valves adjusted and carb cleaned.It has set for 5 months now it will not idle at all if you tunn the choke off.

Try adjusting your idle screw and let it rev higher. That's what usually does it for me. Just so you know, the idle screw should be on your carb, or at least it's on my carb.

The rpm's have to so high it not reasonable to leave it there.

I wonder if something could be plugged inside the carb ?

I bet you're pilot jet is plugged.

Remove the float bowl plug and take out the main and pilot jet.

Clean out the jets with carb cleaner and spray out the jet orifices too.

Be sure you can see light through the pilot jet.

Your pilot jet is clogged. The carb does NOT need to come off, you can rotate the carb just enough to get the bowl off and access the pilot jet.

The bowl doesn't need to come off either, just the plug.

If that isnt the problem then you pilot jet is too lean, try stepping it up a couple sizes!

my bike did the same thing, it was the valves. they went out of spec. remember once you adjust them you are on borrowed time. cant hurt to check the clearances again its quick and easy to do. (and will kill off an item on the check list)

True, the bowl does not need to come off....unless he has some junk floating around in there.

Or your cam timing is off.. I know this happened to me once, Or make sure the hot start thingy in the carb is in all the way, sometimes that spring gets bound up and the plunger wont seat, it will feel fine at the lever bit it's not.

i had the same thing happen and it was the main jet. i cleaned out the main jet and everything was good as new.

The exact same thing happened to my 04 twice there is probably a really smal dirt particle trapped in your idling circuit
