Black or Natural Color IMS Tank?

13 posts in this topic

I'm trying to get my 2006 YZ450 ready for the desert. I don't know what color tank to get. Do the natural color IMS tanks get all brown and nasty looking after a couple seasons of riding. If it does, then I will opt for the black. Can anyone send some feedback? Thanks!

I would get the natural color just because its easier to see how much fuel is left.

Back in March 06 I bought the natural for mine, and it still looks new. But I usually drain it if I'm gonna let it sit more than a couple of days, or put the stock tank back on for track riding. The black would probably look cool, but it sure would be hard to tell whatcha got left.

Well I used to have a CR250, and it was always a pain in the ass to tell how much fuel was left because it sits inside the frame. I'm not too concerned about that. I know I won't drain my tank either. I'm just concerned about it turning a nasty brown.

Do you have any pictures of your bike with the ims tank? Could you post them please?

I bought an oversized Zip-Ty tank, that I believe is either made by Clarke or IMS. From what I have been told, all of the Natural tanks will turn to varying shades of brown. Mine definately did. I think I heard it is from the gas Vapors, and not from the actual liquid gas. Some type of chemical reaction that can't be avoided.

get black, makes the bike look better. just open the cap and tilt side to side to see level, just like you do to see the stock level.

Wow.... that natural color is really nice! I actually just ordered my Black IMS tank yesterday. We'll see how it looks with the yellow plastics.
