YZ 426 F exhaust explosion!

Can anyone explain that?? It sure looks like an explosion not merely a worn out muffler or anything. The hole is too big and ripped out. Perhaps it was a very strong backfire??

It appears that either there was a restriction in the end of the pipe or the bike was running extremely lean or run at WFO for far too long. Whatever the cause, the front half of the muffler got so hot that it melted everything close to it until the metal, fatigued by the heat, literally exploded. This rider must have been a dolt because the heat required to melt the sidecover should have alerted him to a problem before the pipe exploded.
