Yz 426 starts then dies

My YZ has been parked for a couple months and now starts and then dies after a few seconds. Anyone have an idea what might be the problem.

Clean the Carburetor! Clean the air filter while your at it.

This will be a good start. BTW that small allen head screw on the bottom side left of the carb bowl is a float bowl drain. Use it every time you put your bike away and you have less of this trouble.

Thanks,

Just cleaned it still the same.

pull the pilot i bet its plugged..

or the pilot air jet is plugged

Could also be a clogged vent tube on the fuel tank. How long will it run after you start it? If the vent on the tank, or the vents on the carb get plugged it will not allow fuel through the carb. The gas tank vent will not allow the carb bowl to fill, the carb vents clogging will keep the bowl from letting any fuel out and into the engine. Just a few other things to check. Hope this helps.

If the vent on the tank, or the vents on the carb get plugged ...
or the check valve in the vent line is upside down (arrow should point to the tank)
or the check valve in the vent line is upside down (arrow should point to the tank)

That is a good point, thanks Gray.
