cracked(broken) motor casing

11 posts in this topic

i recently had the shortest ride in dirt bike history, literally 15 seconds. straight from the truck, went up a hill that had a little lip on it, caught some air, landed, stopped about 50 feet later to find oil gushing out. what ended up happening was i bottomed out, how i don't know, and the skidplate and frame bent and nailed the bottom oil plug and knocked it off out of the side. so, the drain plug went off sideways, towards the shifter that is, and blew out about an inch and a half of the motor casing with it. i'd say an inch and a half up and about 3/4s of an inch wide blew out, including the threads of the plug. so, who has info on prices to repair or what i will be looking at? did the best i could to explain with this essay.

Really, that sucks man. What year is the bike? I woiuld just replace the cases, I think the '06 Cases are $600, plus the labor you're going to be looking at. It's not going to be cheap, with a hole that big I wouldn't try to weld it, or anything like that. Do it right or don't do it at all.

just hack it together. find someone to weld a plate over the hole and drill and tap a new drain plug hole then just ride the b*&^%ch until she dies...and/or just part it out. if you can do it on ebay you probably can get as much as you would if the bike was whole.

good luck, and how the h311 did you bottom it that hard over just a little lip?!?

He has sent me a pm and I have told him exactly what i got. Im in the process of parting out my 426 right now so hopefully he will be interested. The cases are perfectly fine, the only thing he may need to do is check or change the bearings.

I would reccommend he goes through and does that anyways if he has it all apart.
