Taller bar or raisers?

16 posts in this topic

I'm 6'3'' and have been riding for years. Because of laziness or other $$$ priorities, I have never bothered buying taller handlebars. Now it is time!

I was just wondering what taller riders use to be more comfortable riding, especially standing up... do you use Protaper Hawkins Wood High (or some other bars) or do you use the Protaper 55mm raisers?

and did it make it much of a difference?

(I apologize if this topic has been already covered but the search engine is always disabled when I surf on TT).

I am 6ft 4in. I ride with 10mm risers and Renthal Fatbar RC High (114mm).

I also did the footpeg mod to drop the pegs about 1/2 inch.

Way better for my riding.

I used to have Renthal Twinwall Windham (92mm) and it just wasn't enough.

My brother calls my bars "monkey bars", but i still make my YZ426 look small with me being so tall.

If you trail climb it is a bit harder to climb since you are set back a bit, but overall way better for whoops and standing over your bike.

With your set up, are you able to tell me how much higher than stock is it?

and why did you go with raiser/bar combo, wasn't there bars high enough?

Thanks for the info

I originally got the 10mm risers and didn't think it was enough.

When i stand up on my bike, i like to be able to have my hands on the grips and lock by elbows and not be too much in front of the bike. When i had 10mm risers only, i was still feeling like i was just too much over the front of the bike. With the 114mm bars and 10mm risers i now feel like when i stand up and lock my elbows, i am just perfect.

It all is rider choice, i just like it this way. In all reality, it is only 32mm higher than what i had originally. 25mm is roughly an inch.

Works great for me.

Get the BRP sub mount, it raises the stock bars by some 35 mm. And later, you can always add a Scotts steering stabilizer.

thats awesome, thanks for the link

that wouldn't be Bombardier's performance line would it.

for all that aren't into sleds, its what GYT-R is to Yamaha :applause:

Therefore, the difference between 35mm and 42mm is really marginal... it is odd that BRP markets those two sizes if they are only slightly different... there must be something that I am not getting

Actually.... 1 inch is a huge difference. 25mm to 32mm is 7mm or 1/4inch estimate.

That still is a decent amount of change to notice the difference.

1/2inch is where you will really notice the difference.

But from stock to what i have for my tall setup is a huge difference.

But then so is a "stock rider" at 5ft 8 or 5ft 10 and 160lbs.

I am 6ft 4 and 235lbs.

So i made the change.

We put a Windham bend on my '06 for my 6'2"+ son, and he likes them. They are 14mm taller that the YZ High bend that the bike came with. They feel a little tall to me at 5'10", but on that bike, I do kind of like them.

I also put Windham Twinwall's on my '06, I myself, about 6 foot, like them, nothing too tall, nothing too short, I think they are just about perfect.

I have the Carmichael bend bar, but also use a riser. i am 6'2 and have pretty long arms because of it. I bought a riser that moved my bars up an inch and forward an inch and a half. With a plain riser I had a hard time getting my weight over the center of the bike and being comfy, now it is supercomf

I am 6'3" also and I have the pro taper clamp with the 55 mm risers and the Kevin Windham pro taper bend. It fits me perfect, I can stand up no problem. The bike never felt right to me with the stock bars and clamp but now it is so much better. I bought the whole setup on ebay for $100.

Which riser would that be?
