It looks like chain is too short also. ?

I'm swapping a XL600R twin carb engine into a XR650L frame myself. It now has a centered shock location and uses a remote reservoir '85 XR600R shock. The boots are easy to extend with a piece of tube and hose this way.?

Yes sir.....that chain is a link or three too short.....nice catch....did the adjusters give it away??

Do you have any photos of how you extended the boots?

I might try to copy your approach.
