Questions about updating/upgrading an XL600

Thats exactly what I would like to find....I was looking on eBay and they have allot of newer (02-05) CR250 USD forks, I'm wondering if those will work?

I have one question...the XR swingarm shaft does not go through the engine like the CR does, what do I do about the gap in between the CR swingarm mounts?

I thought about tubing with seals on the ends that would fit in the gap...is something like that necessary?

Can't really speak to the swingarm issue, I only used the front end off of the CR. On my ATK conversion, the kit came with a spacer in the swingarm. I could post some pics, but not sure how much it will pertain to the CR unit.

Someone else may have more experience there.

As far as the forks go, my CR was a 91. All I did was make a sleeve that would allow the XR steering stem to be pressed into the CR lower triple clamp. Then the steering stops needed to be modified, as the upper fork tube clamp bolts slightly contact the gas tank.

Other than that it was a bolt on.

Thanks, that one pics is from when I first built it in 1989. I was racing and riding a lot then. Then my wife and I married, slowly my riding digressed

to just following my kids thru the woods.

My youngest broke his arm on his PeeWee 50 about four years ago, he lost his desire to ride. And somehow I just stopped.

Got the bug again recently, and am in the process of redoing the old scoot.

It's defiantly old school, but I want to spend some seat time before I decide to plunk down a big chunk of change on something newer and shinier.

I had it for sale, then some dude actually made me a decent offer for it, I backed out. I built it, it'll stay mine for a long time.
