new stock xr650L - sea level compared to colorado altitude

3 posts in this topic

Would it be safe to say that a stock bike will run better at altitude

than one that is at sea level with the factory lean settings and all the emission B.S. intact?

Better, in that the air/fuel mixture will be more in balance on the high alt. bike. However, I've heard that the lack of O2 in the higher elevations really saps HP, so this may negate any benefits.

The emissions carp won't help or hurt, and the stock jetting will be 'richer' the higher you go.

Drilling the slide is always good, as is shimming the needle.
