yz426 tear down this winter

2 posts in this topic

ok this winter I am gonna tear down my 426 check the valves, and I read some where that to see if your valves are sealing you take the head off and spray gumout or something down the ports and see if it dripps out the valve but is there a way to see if they still seal without taking the head off.

and should I put new rings, new piston and rings or what it runs great just preventative maintance

oh yea and how much do Ti valves usually run for a set of 5

If it runs good then don't mess with it. Just check the valve clearances, this is done without pulling the head and is fairly simple. Not a bad idea to change the timing chain if it hasn't been done yet, but don't pull the head unless you have to. I don't know about the cost of a set of valves, but they will be close to $80 each. You can do a leak down test to check the valve seating, just do a search on here for leak down and you will get tons of info. Just my 2c, hope this helps.
