Q about XR600R/650R/650L rim inter-changeability

14 posts in this topic

I've decided to replace my beat up rims and am trying to see if these are all the same. It seems to me they are, but not very many websites list the part numbers, so I can't tell...

What I know to be pretty certain is that the rears are the same for the XR650L/XR650R/XR600R: 18 x 2.15, 32 spoke

What about the fronts? The XR650R is a 21 x 1.60, 36 spoke. The XR650L is 21 x 1.60, 32 spoke. Can somebody tell me how many spokes are on the front wheel of an XR600R?

Thanks!

Brian

I can go count mine if you want, but wait! Neither of my XR600Rs have stock wheels! The 92 has YZ wheels and rims, hubs, the 96 has Supermoto set up with Excells and Z-billet hubs...sorry!

Thanks anyway man - those sound like some bad bikes!

As it turns out, I was able to cross-reference part #'s on the fiche at RonAyers.com and answer my own question. All XR250/400/600/650R use the same front wheel , but the XRL has a 32 spoke front wheel. :ride:

THAT's why I can't get a part # for a black aluminum front wheel - nobody makes one! Well, perhaps I need to research how to fit different hubs to my forks.

my question would be.....can you bolt a XR650R wheel onto a XR650L frt end?

I have an R wheel with an SM 320mm big rotor that I'd liek to run on my L when it's on the street

any ideas?

That would take at least a caliper relocation bracket, but I don't even know if the axles are the same diameter. You'd likely have more luck swapping 600R and 650L parts since they have the same forks...

Id be willing to bet you CAN put a 600R wheel on the front and that Excell makes a front wheel for the L in black and 32 spoke. Email Motostrano and ask them.

Thanks for the tip, I just emailed them. I see they make one in 17", but I've never seen the 21"...

from what I can find it looks like the 600 front is a 1.4x21 and takes 36 spokes, but the schematic I found isn't the best so I could be mistaken on the spoke count.
